Comic Con Review Preview

I still need to upload all the pictures to do a full write up of Dad and Mel's Big Adventure, but in the meantime here is a little preview.  This is a picture of Melody trying out Warhammer Online at the EA booth.  Melody is enjoying it quite a bit and would really like to be allowed to use the trial version we received.  We'll see.  She is convinced this is the game for her because the charachter she got to play was a woman with  a big sword and throwing axe kicking butt.  And most of the enemies she was fighting were evil female warriors.  I did not bother to explain to her that in most games you can choose to play a female charachter and in the villains will not all be female in Warhammer--she was happy.  Gotta think through the realities of letting her play.  I think it might make more sense for her to start with a similar game offline but we'll see.

The important thing about this picture is what is missing.  Melody got some personal instruction from a fellow convention attendee who plays the game already. I thought he was an EA employee at first but when I checked his badge, I saw he was just a guest too.  I thought his badge was funny, using a fake name like some people do,  But on a whim I looked him up when we got back and as it happens, Melody got her Warhammer training from Eric Bloom, the lead singer of Blue Oyster Cult!  Look right there in the trivia section of his Wikipedia page--loves MMOs.  So did Melody the guitarist/gamer nerd get to bond on her two loves with a True Rock Icon? Did we get the kind of picture that would be like 8000 kinds of cool for profile package on a future American Idol appearance?  No!  Of course not!  Because Daddy figured this was just another goofing around nerd and not an actual Famous Nerd.  Oh, I am just sick about it.  But it's still a very cool treat for our trip.

I was glad to help the young lady on her first MMO. She seemed genuinely enthusiastic but floundering on how to make things work, so just a few quick pieces of advice on maneuvering around the game, etc. and she got it immediately like most smart young folks do.
Hopefully Dad will come see us play later in 2009.
